Metro Manila in direct path of supertyphoon (10:20 a.m.)

MANILA -- Supertyphoon Reming (international codename Durian), packing winds of 190 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 225 kph, is on course to hit Metro Manila by Friday morning after it slammed into Catanduanes Thursday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Reming weakened a bit.

As of 5 a.m. Thursday, Reming was 80 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes and was moving west northwest at 17 kph.

After it makes landfall in Catanduanes, Reming will cross Camarines Norte and head straight for Metro Manila then cross Zambales and exit to the South China Sea.

Malacaņang had suspended classes in all levels in the metro area and surrounding provinces as Signal Number 2 was raised in the nation's capital. (Sunnex)
