Kidnap gang wants piece of Pacquiao

DAVAO CITY -- All those millions of dollars he is reported to have won has not escaped the country's most notorious kidnap for ransom group, Pentagon, and its leader Tahir Alonto.

The group wants a share of modern-day hero and super-flyweight champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao's wealth and they'll do it through the only way they know -- kidnapping.

The military and police are monitoring the Pentagon who is allegedly planning to abduct Pacquiao or any member of his family to get what it wants.

According to reports gathered by intelligence units of the military and police, Alonto's group is planning to abduct Pacquiao because of his huge earnings in his latest fight with Mexican boxer Erik "El Terrible" Morales.

The group is also after the millions that the boxer amassed in his previous fights.

Alonto's group will reportedly come from Liguasan Marsh in Maguindanao Province and proceed to General Santos City where the people's champion is residing and abduct him or any member of his family.

The group is allegedly planning to demand a huge ransom for the release of Pacquiao.

Army 6th Infantry Division chief Major General Nehemias Pajarito ordered the troops to be on alert on the movements of the Pentagon group in their areas of responsibility.

Aside from Pacquiao, the group is also planning to abduct several other big-time businessmen in Central Mindanao.

General Santos City Police Office chief Alfredo Toroctocon said he has already warned Pacquiao and beefed up the number of bodyguards deployed to protect the boxer.

Pacquiao, in a television interview, said that those planning to abduct him are better off just asking him for money.

"Huwag naman, maghingi na lang sila sa akin (Why don't they ask me for money instead)," Pacquiao was quoted as saying. (RCO/GF)
