P45-M worth of Marijuana burned in Camp Dangwa

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- An estimated P44,777,500 worth of dried marijuana was publicly burned at the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera parade grounds late Saturday morning.

This resulted after approximately 221,500 fully grown marijuana plants, 11,500 seedlings and 500 grams of seeds of the same cannabis sativa hemp plants were uprooted by members of a composite government team in nine remote sitios of Bakun and Kibungan, Benguet, a week ago.
Among those in the raiding team were personnel from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional office, the Benguet Provincial Police Office and the PRO-Cordillera Mobile Group.
Superintendent Oliver Enmodias, PDEA regional director, said the successful five-day eradication operation from December 14 to 19 was conducted in the sitios of Guasadan, Kimmayad, Mangaan, Nap-nap, Ligab and Bas-angan, all within Kayapa, Bakun; and in sitios Sayangan, Lanipaw and Tanap, all in Takadang, Kibungan.
He added they immediately planned and implemented the raid as soon as they received information from a concerned citizen that these illegal drugs were scheduled to be harvested and delivered to lowland provinces this Christmas season.
Meanwhile, another P1,725,000 worth of marijuana bricks were intercepted by joint forces of the Philippine Army's 77th at 54th Infantry Battalion in Tocucan, Bontoc, Mountain Province.
Weighing approximately 69 kilograms, the contraband was reportedly being transported on board a public utility jeepney when its driver and suspected owner, Manuel Nadnaden, jumped off the vehicle upon approaching the checkpoint.
