Palace seeks balanced decision on proposed legislated pay increase (10:18 a.m.)

MANILA -- Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said common purpose and teamwork for the economy should prevail on the proposed P125 legislated wage issue which is strongly being opposed by the business community.

Bunye said a balance between what is due the workers and the survival and viability of the business firms, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), should be reached.

“The spirit of common purpose and teamwork for the economy should be shouldered by all sectors across the nation and we are confident that the labor and the business sectors, as well as the concerned institutions of the government, would be able to find a middle ground on wage issues,” he said.

He reiterated that there are existing tripartite regional wage boards which, aside from being sensitive of the actual situation in the ground, is able to reach a balance and acceptable decision to all parties concerned. (JMR)
