Gov't mediates in feud between Filipinos laborers, Egyptians in Dubai (10:11 a.m.)
MANILA -- The government and employers have held discussions to prevent a repeat of the riot that took place between Filipino workers and Egyptians in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last Saturday.
Administrator Marianito Roque, of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) issued the statement after confirming that five Filipinos were hurt in the melee.
"There has been an amicable discussion between the workers who clashed, the employers and the authorities. The problem has been settled," Roque told
reporters in a briefing.
The Filipinos were employed with the Arabian Aluminum Company in Dubai, Roque said. The names of the victims were unavailable as they were already discharged from the hospital after sustaining minor injuries in different parts of their bodies.
Seven were arrested and detained and later released, added Roque. (MSN) |
