Village chiefs want Emano to run for vice mayor
By Lizanilla J. Amarga

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Majority of the village chiefs aligned with the ruling PaDayon Pilipino party want Mayor Vicente Emano to run for vice mayor instead of congressman in the coming May elections.

Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) chairman City Councilor Alexander Dacer said there were more who voted for Emano to run as vice mayor. However, with the difference of just two votes, things may still change.

Dacer, a PaDayon Pilipino political lieutenant and among the remaining loyal barangay chiefs referred to as Emano's "Magic 10", confirmed reports that indeed there was held recently a "very democratic" consultation between Emano and some 73 of his PaDayon Pilipino barangay chiefs early this week.

He said the mayor wanted to solicit the honest opinion of the barangay chiefs on what position they want for him in the May elections.

Dacer said Emano explained to the barangay chiefs the three options he is considering since he is now serving his last term as Cagayan de Oro City mayor.

These include running for vice mayor, seeking a seat at the Lower House, or retiring for three years from public office and seeking reelection as mayor in 2010.

He said Carmen barangay chief Rolando Uy, barangay 7 chief Paz Acebu, barangay Gusa captain Eric Salcedo, and Barangay Macasandig chief Aaron Neri were then tasked to gather the consensus of those under their areas.

Dacer said the village chiefs picked a name to run for mayor but it cannot be made public yet.

A source who requested anonymity said barangay executives during the same consultation were given five names from where they could choose their PaDayon Pilipino mayoralty bet.

The choices were among third-term Cagayan de Oro Representative Constantino Jaraula, incumbent vice mayor Michelle Tagarda-Spiers, and City Councilors Juan Sia, Reynaldo Advincula and Dacer. (Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro/Sunnex)
