Ferry catches fire while at sea (3:20 p.m.)
CEBU CITY -- A ferry plying the Manila-Cebu route catches fire while at sea at around 10:30 a.m. on Monday while approaching a wharf in Mandaue City.
Heavy smoke were seen coming out of the rear end of the m/v Manila Bay I of Gothong Shipping Lines, as it approached the wharf.
Authorities managed to control the fire. No one was reported hurt in the incident.
Authorities ruled out terrorism as the cause of the incident.
Initial investigation conducted by the Mandaue City Fire Department said some crewmen of the ferry were doing wielding works and triggered the conflagration.
Gothong legal counsel Francisto Mijares said the ship is on regular dry docking.
Dr. Emmanuel Labella, Bureau of Quarantine chief, said the vessel's bridge and upper were totally burned.(Sunnex) |
