Arroyo tells admin bets to avoid mudslinging
MANILA -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Tuesday directed administration candidates to forego character assassination and mudslinging during the campaign.
She urged members of the administration's senatorial team and the rest of the coalition to instead focus on their platform and on government's national agenda.

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said Arroyo also wants administration candidates to enjoin the people to be part of positive change.
He said Arroyo's bidding to the ruling party's candidates is clear: Do away with character assassination and instead concentrate on explaining to the people how they can be part of the bandwagon of positive change.
"We want a nurturing campaign, not a contest of mudslinging or muckraking," Bunye, who is also Presidential spokesman, added.
Arroyo said, "The elections in May should now be about the future and new ideas instead of bringing up old complaints and resorting to political fighting and bickering."
The President, during the national convention of her original political party Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi), said the coming elections should no longer delve on the past and previous complaint but instead should be about new ideas and the future.
She said it should also be "about fighting for a stronger nation, not just about fighting." (Sunnex)
