ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The police forces are placed on alert following intelligence report of a bombing plot targeting the transport sector in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Post your Valentine's Day greetings
Zamboanga Peninsula Police Director Jaime Caringal said he ordered all his city and provincial directors to tighten security in bus terminals in the different parts of the region to thwart attempts to bomb buses.
Caringal's command covers the provinces of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte, and the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Pagadian, Isabela and Zamboanga.
He also ordered the strict inspection of baggage and cargoes before loading to any bus that is scheduled to depart from one place to the other to ensure the safety of the riding public.
Caringal urged the riding public to be vigilant and to immediately report to concerned authorities once they spot unattended baggage while traveling.
"The people should always be alert to avoid becoming victims of lawless elements," Caringal said.
He did not say though who or what group is reportedly hatching the bombing plot.
The military's Task Force Zamboanga is assisting the police in the maintenance of security in bus terminals in this city. (Sunnex)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star General Santos. (February 18, 2007 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. Join the Sun.Star message board. Click here. |
