Pakistan test-fires new version of long-range nuclear-capable missile (12:30 p.m.)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan successfully test-fired a new version of its long-range nuclear-capable missile on Friday, a defense official said.

The ballistic Shaheen missile - launched from an undisclosed location - has a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,245 miles). "It successfully hit its target," the official said on the condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media.

No Pakistan army spokesman was immediately available for comment.(AP)
