Cash prizes await best election inspectors By Bong Garcia
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has allocated P45,000 to be awarded as price money to the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) that will be adjudged the best on election day in Zamboanga City.
District II election officer Jesus Posadas said the best BEI competition is intended to encourage board members to do their best in ensuring clean, honest, and orderly elections this May 14.

Since there are three BEI members in a polling precinct, each will receive P15,000 from the P45,000 price money.
The competition for best BEI will be the first of its kind to be held in Zamboanga City.
Posadas said they have already asked the different Department of Education (DepEd) district supervisors to submit a list of teachers who will serve as election inspectors during the May 14 elections.
He said there would be strict screening for BEI membership and one of the requirements is that a member must be a registered voter.
For the first time, the local electorate will be electing eight councilors and a congressman for each of the two districts since this city was recently divided into two congressional districts. (Sunnex)
