Estrada camp wins minor victory in plunder case (5 p.m.)

MANILA -- The camp of detained former President Joseph Estrada achieved a small triumph in the plunder case filed against the former leader when the Sandiganbayan Special Division accepted almost all documentary evidences submitted by Estrada's lawyers.

These included the much-talked-about second envelope that contains proof that the controversial Jose Velarde account was not owned by the former President.

Jose Flaminiano, one of Estrada's lawyers, said the camp was happy about the resolution of the special division. He described the court's ruling as "some sort of consolation."

In a ruling, the special division accepted the pieces of evidence of Estrada in support to the testimonies made by 80 witnesses in defense of the former President.

Estrada, who is in detention for more almost six years now, is facing plunder and perjury cases. He is detained in his resthouse in Tanay, Rizal. (DBP/Sunnex)
