DAVAO CITY -- The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested seven men and seized four kilos of dried marijuana, guns, and ammunition Tuesday night in Carmen, Davao del Norte.

NBI special agent Exzel Hernandez identified the suspects as Rolly Aquino Tubod, Carlito Somilhig Malasarte, Renel Sowaso Celeste, Joel Emeliano Pielago, Charlie Depedro Laturgo, Ryan Moscosa Laurito, and Maxwell Castillas Ramos, all residents of Purok 5 in Barangay Tuganay, Carmen town.

"We will file the case against the suspects as soon as possible in Carmen and for now, they will still be undergoing tactical interrogation for us to get information about others operating in the area," Hernandez told Sun.Star Davao.

The operation was conducted by the NBI, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Southern Mindanao.

The NBI has been monitoring the activities of the group after members were linked to illegal drug trafficking in the cities of Panabo and Tagum and nearby municipalities in Davao del Norte.

A confidential informant was sent out to buy some marijuana and then join a pot session inside a videoke house nearby after the prime suspect's den was identified.

However, the ringleader, Edilberto Encarbo, was not there when the law enforcers pounced. The seven are just runners and ushers for Encarbo, NBI-Southern Mindanao said.

Confiscated from the suspects were more or less four kilos of dried marijuana leaves, one hand grenade, one 12-gauge shotgun and 35 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

Hernandez credited the community in Tuganay for helping them track down the suspects.

The suspects are now detained at the NBI 11 office awaiting the charges to be filed against them. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
