Flores said the victims were onboard a barangay service truck from the town center going back to Aya when they were ambushed by unidentified armed men of an undetermined number in a secluded area in Barangay Manlubinsag.
Baylon, a known military supporter, died instantly while six others with him expired at the Guihulngan Municipal Hospital hours after they were brought there, Flores said.
Five others remain in critical condition, he added.
The army colonel said that based on their initial investigation, the suspects were believed to be members of the Larangang Guerilla 1-Komiting Rehonal Negros of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army in Negros island.
Police and military troops in La Libertad were pursuing the gunmen Friday. Army detachments near the ambush site were also alerted.
