Palace rues pessimistic attitude of Filipinos (10:26 a.m.)
MANILA -- Malacaņang told Filipinos not to be too negative and to congratulate themselves in their achievements once in a while.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye, in his weekly column, said among the country's achievements that Filipinos should be proud of are the stronger peso, reduced budget deficit and public debt and increased foreign investments.
"In light of these real achievements, the President believes that we should be kinder to ourselves as a people and congratulate ourselves once in a while when there are accomplishments and developments to be proud about," said Bunye, who is also Presidential spokesman.
Bunye issued the statement following reports that the hunger incidence in the country has not gone down in the past six months and that those who perceive themselves as poor continued to go up.
He said Arroyo is lamenting that all the "bad or despairing news" in the media is giving the wrong impression abroad that the Philippines is the worst place to live and do business in, "when there are many other indicators that say otherwise." (JMR) |
