Sulu lacks cops for poll duties, asks for 1T Marines By Bong Garcia
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- An election official said Sunday that police here lack personnel to guard the conduct of the May 14 elections in the island province of Sulu.
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) assistant election officer Vidzfar Juli said they are short by 290 personnel if taken into account the number of polling precincts that they have to attend to during the elections.

Juli said there are 1,360 polling precincts in Sulu's 18 towns, including island municipalities, while there are only 1,070 policemen in the entire province.
"There are areas which needs the augmentation of the military," Juli said.
He said the shortage of policemen is the reason why they are insisting on having the deputization of the military expanded.
Armm Police Director Joel Goltiao said he would request that the 3rd
Marine Brigade based in Patikul, Sulu be tapped to augment his forces in guarding the conduct of May 14 elections.
Goltiao said at least 1,000 Marine soldiers are needed to augment the police to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of elections in the entire province of Sulu.
The province of Sulu is one of the four hotly contested provinces in the autonomous region. The three others are the provinces of Basilan,
Lanao del Sur, and Shariff Kabunusan.
Juli said they have already shipped 678 ballot boxes Sulu.
The remaining 682 ballot boxes will be shipped next month, according to Juli. (Sunnex)
