Gov’t employee killed in Canlaon ambush (12:50 p.m.) By Nicolas C. Delfin
BACOLOD CITY -- A 39-year-old government employee died on the spot after he was ambushed by three fully-armed men about 10:00 a.m. at Sitio Tukon-Tukon, Barangay Linothangan, Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.
Killed was identified as Jess Lubrisco an employee of the local government of Canlaon City.
Army 303rd Infantry Brigade Commander Gen. Gregorio Fajardo, in a text message sent to Sun.Star, said Lubrisco was on board a Nissan Frontier pick-up owned by the local government of Canlaon City when the three unidentified men
armed with M16 rifles blocked his way along Sitio Tukon-Tukon and fired at him.
As of this posting, the Canlaon City Police Office won't divulge yet the motive behind Lubrisco's murder prior to an investigation being conducted.
The police won't also confirm the report that the ambush was meant for Canlaon City Mayor Judith Cardenas.
Cardenas, however, cannot be reached for comment as of this posting.
Meanwhile, a hot pursuit operation is still being conducted by Canlaon City Police operatives with an augmentation from the military for the possible identification and apprehension of the suspects.(Sun.Star Bacolod) |
