Mexico architect denies tax evasion charges
By Albert B. Lacanlale

MEXICO, Pampanga -- Mexico Municipal Architect Nestor Mangio said there is no truth to reports that he and his wife, Marionette, defrauded the government by evading taxes worth at least P68 million.

Mangio said they never forged the signatures of the complainant, former Pampanga Provincial Board (PB) member Robert David, on the deeds of sale of lots now registered in his and his wife's name.

He said there are no pending criminal or administrative charges against or involving them.

"The lots, titles in question are not part of and not included in The Lakeshore Estate contrary to the claim of David," Mangio said, referring to a news item that was published in Sun.Star Pampanga on Saturday.

He said the subject properties and lots mentioned by David are their personal properties and are registered under their names.

"And The Lakeshore has nothing to do with these personal properties and transaction of ours," Mangio clarified.

He said there is no basis for David to claim that his signatures were falsified because he was the one who affixed his signatures on the deeds of sale he referred to and he was paid in full of the agreed price for the properties covering 59,675 square meters.

"In fact, he (David) has acknowledged the receipt of P18,599,685 excluding interests, which amounted to about P18 million from me in full payment for the properties mentioned," said Mangio.

Payments were purportedly given to David by Mangio as early as 1999 and the bulk of the amounts were used by the former PB member to redeem his properties with several creditors with whom he has mortgaged his properties.

"All money that I paid were personally received by Robert David and these are supported by documents," Mangio added.

"It was Robert David himself who executed the deeds of sale to effect the transfer of titles in the name of Architect Nestor S. Mangio and Marionette P. Mangio. Architect Nestor S. Mangio and wife Marionette P. Mangio did not and never falsified any document and did not and never forged any signature," said the municipal architect. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
