Palace says Armed Forces not to blame for entry of foreign terrorist (10:14 a.m.)

MANILA -- Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita defended the military after a ranking Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) leader reportedly slipped into Mindanao and went into hiding despite ongoing operations against the local terrorist groups.

Ermita said it is very easy for Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan to enter the Philippines because of the county's wide borders.

He added that the important thing is the authorities are aware of it and are doing something to neutralize the foreign terrorists.

Ermita said the Armed Forces of the Philippines should just be allowed to do its job of hunting down and arresting Zulkifli who has reportedly joined fellow JI
members Dulmatin and Omar Patek in Sulu.

Zulkifli, the current leader of Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia (KMM), reportedly trained members of the Abu Sayayf Group particularly in making bombs and carrying out bombingss. (JMR)
