Church asks flock to reflect on sins this Holy Week
CEBU CITY -- The Archdiocese of Cebu wants its flock to spend the Holy Week reflecting on how they have contributed to corruption.
The Archdiocese urged everyone in the church to "reflect upon the ways in which we failed and contributed to the corruption of the country."

Its official publication, Bag-ong Lungsoranon, said in its editorial that, "every year, we have a different experience in remembering the passion and death of Jesus Christ."
While so much blame is placed on the government, "atong hinum-duman nga sa ginagmay ug hilum mga paagi, kita usab nagpabarog sa mga laki-laki sa dakong gambalay sa korapsyon sa atong nasod. (Let us also remember that in our small and silent ways, we are helping build frameworks for corruption to take root in our country.)"
The paper cited as examples the acts of giving grease money to shortcut government transactions and to manipulate the law.
It also cited the public's lack of awareness of social issues and their tolerance of corruption as part of life.
"Let us realize that it is wrong to let righteousness die in our midst without us putting up a fight," the editorial said in Cebuano.
It said that Christ's death will be useless if the people will continue to be unaware of their sins as citizens.
"Jesus Christ forgave us on His cross by saying, 'Forgive them for they do not know what they are doing,'" the editorial said.
If we are not aware of what we are doing, our conscience will punish us, the church publication said. (Sun.Star Cebu)
