MANILA -- Government forces on Wednesday morning found the body of US Peace Corps volunteer Julia Campbell who had been reported missing since last week in Ifugao province, military officials reported.

Major General Rodrigo Maclang, commander of the Army's 8th Infantry Division, said the Campbell's body was recovered by Army soldiers participating in an inter-agency effort to search and rescue the American.

"(The) dead body of Julia Campbell (was) found by Army troops in Barangay Battad, Banaue at 10:30 this morning," said Maclang, citing sketchy reports from the ground troops. "There are no details available (yet)," he added.

"She was found buried with her feet protruding from the ground," said Maclang, adding that more government forces have been sent to the area to extricate the remains of Campbell who authorities said was last seen last April 8. (VR)
