Police say suspected bomb kills man on motorcycle (7 p.m.)

MANILA -- A suspected homemade bomb exploded late Wednesday, killing a man traveling on a motorcycle near a residential area in a southern Philippine city, police said.

The bomb, believed to be a mortar shell attached to a timer, may have gone off prematurely while concealed on the motorcycle or carried by the man driving it in Cotabato, senior superintendent Panares Adap said.

Cotabato has been hit before by bomb attacks by suspected al-Qaida-linked militants. Adap said it was too early to link anyone to the blast.(AP)
