Cessna plane crashes after takeoff in Manila, killing pilot (12 p.m.)

MANILA -- A small Cessna plane crashed in a residential area shortly after taking off from Manila airport Thursday, killing the pilot, officials said.

The plane went down in a vacant lot inside a residential area adjacent to the airport, Angel Atutubo, the airport's security official, told radio dzBB.

There were no other casualties and no passengers aboard the aircraft. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.(AP)
