3 party-list groups to get 3 House seats: survey

MANILA -- If elections were held today, party-list groups Bayan Muna, Gabriela, and Anakpawis would get three seats in the House of Representatives, the April 21-25 pre-election survey of Pulse Asia showed.

The survey, which has 1,800 respondents who are of voting age, also showed that 59 percent of Filipino registered voters are aware of the party-list mechanism, which is six percent higher than the figure obtained in the early April survey.

Awareness ranged from 53 percent as recorded in Mindanao to 77 percent in the well-off classes A, B, C. But 35.3 percent of Filipinos said they are not inclined to vote for any of the party-list groups.

Among the 93 party-list groups accredited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Pulse Asia said 11 would have a statistical chance of getting at least one congressional seat.

They are led by Bayan Muna with an overall voter preference of 12.3 percent, followed by Gabriela with 6.9 percent, and Anak Pawis with 6.8 percent.

The three party-list groups have been branded by the Armed Forces as communist front organizations. Angat Ating Kabuhayan Pilipinas, Inc. (5.1 percent) and Akbayan! Citizens' Action Party (4.7 percent) will get two seats each in the House of Representatives. Buhay Hayaang Yumabong (3.6 percent), An Waray (2.8 percent), Filipinos for Peace, Justice, and Progress Movement (2.7 percent), Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives (2.2 percent), Citizens Battle Against Corruption (2.2 percent), and Anak Mindanao (2.1 percent) will get one congressional seat each.

Buhay is the party-list group of the El Shaddai Catholic charismatic movement, FPJPM is the group associated with the late actor and presidential bet Fernando Poe Jr. and Cibac is the party-list organization of the Jesus is Lord movement. (JMR/Sunnex)
