6 killed, 3 hurt in Abra ambush

BAGUIO CITY -- Six supporters of a congressional candidate were killed while three others were wounded when their vehicle was attacked by unidentified men at 1 p.m. Friday in the boundary of Pang-ot and Bai in Abra.
The supporters of Lagayan Mayor Cecille Luna, who is running for Congress, were returning to Bai after attending a burial in another village when the attack happened.

They were onboard a silver Mitsubishi Pajero owned by the mayor at the time of the incident. Luna, who tarried behind in another vehicle, was spared.
Police identified those who died as Romero Guyang, Eduardo Guyang, Felima Caleflores, Jeson Battalao, Bali Rubeo, and Darwin Sitnagen, all reportedly supporters of Luna.
Those wounded were Lorenzo Guyang, Roderick Guyang, and Armenio Ayab.
Police Regional Office information officer Joseph Adnol said they have initially assessed the incident as politically motivated.
Luna accused the camp of Governor Vicente Valera, her opponent in the May 14 congressional race, of being behind the ambush.
Luna said she has been receiving threats from Valera's camp and that a few weeks before the attack, two supporters of the governor allegedly stalked her while she was attending a church wedding.
