Davao City mayor severs ties with Nograles
By Grace L. Plata

DAVAO CITY -- Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte has severed ties with Congressman Prospero "Boy" Nograles, saying "the relationship fragmented with the events that unfolded during the past week."

In an interview after he cast his vote at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo High School Monday, Duterte said he and Nograles have never been political allies.

"There is no alliance between us. We have just become unified in some way because we are both for the administration. But all the while I thought nasa isang (we were in one) ticket kami, he did not support others in the Hugpong line-up," Duterte said.

The mayor said he saw sample ballots allegedly distributed by Nograles's camp that excluded the names of some Hugpong bets.

"Lahi gyud siya, ka-lahi gyud siya, iba siya (He is different)," Duterte said.

According to Duterte, he is saying these because the people have the right to know what triggered the falling out between him and Nograles.

"It is sailing sunset days," Duterte said referring to his ties with Nograles.

As to his service as mayor, Duterte said that if people would grant him another term he would make the most out of it.

"Mukayod gyud ko arun maabot ang gusto sa tao nga nagbutang sa akong sa pwesto for 20 years (I will do my best so that the people who put me in position for 20 years will get what they need)," Duterte said.

Duterte added that he voted straight for Team Unity and the Hugpong Party.

"Kung mubuhi ko ug sulti, mao na gyud na siya (Once I give my word, that stays)," Duterte said, reacting to queries about his endorsement of other candidates.

Duterte assured the people of the city that he will see to it that their "votes are counted and counted correctly." (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
