Pineda allies confident of her win in guv race

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Provincial Board Member Lilia Pineda is leading over her two opponents in the Pampanga gubernatorial race based on partial and unofficial results as of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Commenting on the partial results from 21 towns, 17 mayors who are Pineda's allies said they are confident that Pineda would win over incumbent Pampanga Governor Mark Lapid and former priest Ed Panlilio with a lead of 20,000 votes over her closest rival.

The mayors lauded the peaceful conduct of Monday's polls and said that based on election returns gathered by Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi) precinct watchers, Pineda obtained 191,544 votes, Panlilio garnered 183,035 votes, and Lapid received 171,313 votes.

Based on the same results, the mayors said they also expect Pampanga Vice Governor Yeng Guiao to win the vice gubernatorial race with a 34,000-vote margin over Lapid running mate Paul "Con-con" Laus.

Pineda said she was grateful to Kapampangans for the overwhelming vote of confidence, and thanked those who in one way or another have contributed and supported her gubernatorial bid.

Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo, who won by landslide over his two rivals, said this only shows that Kapampangans really want a change.

The mayors reiterated that the leadership of Pineda, an experienced mayor and a PB member, could effectively unite the leaders of the province for real change and development.

Bacolor Mayor Buddy Dungca said Pineda "is the answer to their quest for change as thousands of Kapampangans joined her multi-sectoral assemblies to meet the marginalized sectors of the province, such as the federation of tricycle drivers associations, senior citizens, barangay health workers, barangay security officers, barangay councilmen, persons with disabilities, government retirees, among others."

Through these multi-sectoral consultations with the rural poor in far-flung barangays, the Pampanga mayors said Pineda was unanimously asked to respond to the emerging problem of leadership in the Provincial Capitol by throwing her hat in the gubernatorial race this May elections.

They said Pineda did not fail the persistent public clamor of the rural poor for her to take the opportunity to become a leader of change in the province. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
