Legarda, Escudero in tight race for number one in Namfrel vote count (1:14 p.m.)

MANILA -- The ranking of the top 12 senatorial candidates remained unchanged as of 8:40 a.m. after the National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) has counted votes from 94,206 precincts or 41.92 percent of the more than 200,000 precincts nationwide.

Genuine Opposition (GO) candidates Loren Legarda and Francis Escudero have breached the six million vote mark. Legarda got 6,396,348 votes and Escudero got 6,276,708 votes.

Panfilo Lacson was third with 5,551,623 votes followed by his party mate Manuel Villar with 5,240,839 votes.

Independent candidate Francis Pangilinan with 5,088,512 votes was fifth and Benigno Simeon Aquino III was sixth with 5,028,466 votes.

Edgardo Angara of Team Unity (TU) had 4,511,859 votes followed by independent candidate Gregorio Honasan with 4,191,191 votes and Joker Arroyo (TU) with 4,132,857 votes.

The three remaining slots were occupied by GO bets Alan Peter Cayetano with 4,029,758 votes, Antonio Trillanes IV with 3,932,052 votes and Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III with 3,855,797 votes. (Hannah Oliva-UST intern)
