Namfrel tallies 70% of returns (10:03 a.m.)

MANILA -- Opposition senatorial candidate Loren Legarda continued to beef up her lead in the latest partial and unofficial tally of the National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) late Thursday evening.

As of 11:58 p.m. Thursday, Namfrel has canvassed 158,427 or 70.49 percent of 224,748 precincts nationwide.

Legarda got 12,210,257 votes followed by her Genuine Opposition (GO) colleague Francis Escudero with 11,942,783 votes.

Panfilo Lacson is at third with 10,501,717 and Manuel Villar is at fourth with 10,068,933 votes.

In fifth to eighth places are: independent candidate Francis Pangilinan with 9,587,549 votes; Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III (GO) with 9,533,866 votes; Edgardo Angara of Team Unity (TU) with 8,378,165 votes and Gregorio Honasan (independent) with 7,829,119 votes.

Honasan was followed by GO's Alan Peter Cayetano in ninth with 7,829,119 votes; Joker Arroyo in 10th place with 7,612,471 votes; Antonio Trillanes IV in 11th place with 7,448,141 votes; and Aquilino Pimentel III at 12th place with 7,308,035 votes. (Badith Abonita/UST intern)
