ZAMBOANGA CITY –- Still unidentified gunmen staged an ambush Thursday, killing three persons, including a village official, who are known supporters of a reelected city mayor in the nearby island province of Basilan.

Colonel Ramiro Alivio, chief of the 1st Marine Brigade, said the incident took place around 1:35 p.m. in Barangay Bohe Sapa in the newly created City of Lamitan.

Alivio said the victims were traveling aboard a motorcycle towards Barangay Lumuton of the same city when gunmen ambushed them with the use of high-powered firearms.

Killed were Bohe Sapa Kagawad Tito Talamon, his son Abner, and a companion identified as Sarabin Ahirin.

The fatalities were all known supporters of reelected Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay, who won by huge margin in the last May 14 elections. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
