Ricardo Primicias, Correa's father, said his son would be buried on June 14 in a private lot beside the public cemetery in Barangay Maniboc in Lingayen.
Correa is Primicias's only child with Maria Minda Correa, but he has other children with another woman.
Primicias said the last time he saw his son was seven years ago. But, Primicias added, his son would constantly call him every month without fail.
Correa, 25, was a squad leader assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum in New York.
The US Department of Defense said Correa was the 139th US military man to die in Iraq since the war began in March 2003. He is the second Pangasinanense to die in that country. The other one was 25-year-old US Army Staff Sergeant Richwell Doria of Dagupan City.
Correa was a decorated officer. He received, among others, a Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and several Air Force awards.
At age 18, he enlisted in the US Air Force but later transferred to the US Army and became member of the elite Army Ranger.
Correa was born in the Philippines. He and his mother are US green card holders. He stayed in Hawaii and lived with relatives when his mother decided to come back to the Philippines. (LCMY/Sunnex)
