Appointees in gov't corporations told to resign
MANILA -- Finance Secretary Margarito Teves said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has asked her appointees in the different government owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) and government financial institutions (GFIs) to tender their courtesy resignations.
Teves, in an ambush interview at the vin d' honneur in Malacañang Tuesday night, said the President informed him of this directive Saturday.

He said he is still waiting for the official letter and details of the order but most of these appointees are currently holding positions like presidents, chairmen, and members of the board.
"I think it will start from there, then of course it could expand to all other appointees outside of the GOCC but that's her (Arroyo) call. Hindi ko pa nakikita iyung (I haven't seen the) letter but that was verbalized to us by the President. So I guess we would have to wait for the paper related to it," he said.
Teves admitted that some of the GOCC and GFI appointees have a particular term of office that should be followed while there are those whose terms had already expired.
He said the courtesy resignations could be part of a review to determine who should be reappointed, retained, or replaced in the 80 or so GOCCs and GFIs.
On Cabinet members whose interim appointments were bypassed in the 13th Congress, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said he has already submitted to the President the list of their names.
Ermita said the interim appointments of Cabinet members who are still to be confirmed by the Commission on Appointments have to be signed by Arroyo before these would be submitted to the 14th Congress when it opens in July.
The 11 Cabinet secretaries are Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr., Social Welfare Secretary Esperanza Cabral, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Defense Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., Trade Secretary Peter Favila, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, Energy Secretary Raphael Perpetuo Lotilla, Economic Secretary Romulo Neri, Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno, Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Angelo Reyes, and Teves.
Internal Revenue Jose Maria Buñag, in an ambush interview in Malacañang, denied that he has submitted his resignation, courtesy or irrevocable.
Buñag however said he serves at the pleasure of the President and would follow her directive.
"We will wait for the President's instructions. We will just follow what the President tells us. I came in at the request of this government to help out and it depends on the government to determine (if I have done that)," he said. (JMR/Sunnex)
