Agency to motorcycle riders: Wear helmet with license plate stickers (6:35 p.m.)
MANILA -- In a bid to curb the spate of snatching, hold-ups and robbery cases perpetrated by motorcycle-riding men, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) has passed a resolution requiring motorcycle owners and riders to attach their license plate numbers on both sides of their helmets.
MMC is the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
The resolution was passed during Thursday's sixth MMC meeting at the MMDA office, which was attended by Mayors Feliciano Belmonte Jr. of Quezon City, Vicente Eusebio of Pasig, Sherwin Gatchalian of Valenzuela, Imelda Aguilar of Las Piñas, Vice Mayor Marion Andres of Marikina who represented Mayor Marides Fernando and representatives from the rest of the local government units in Metro Manila and the PNP.
The resolution dubbed the "Dual Motorcycle and Helmet License Plate Numbers Policy" mandated that the license plate numbers on the helmet should be on a water-proof sticker permanently placed on both sides of the headgear and should be large enough to be seen by the public.
This also requires that the license plate sticker should be readable from a distance of 25 meters and should be placed 40mm high on the helmet. (Sunnex) |
