CLARK FREEPORT -- Rescuers recovered Friday night the body of the third person who was buried alive after the collapse of the Coastal Petroleum oil depot in Barangay Sapang Bato in Angeles City on Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent Nicanor S. Targa, CDC SFD chief, said the body of Jonel Cuenco was retrieved by the rescue team belonging to the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and Clark Development Corporation (CDC) Security and Fire Department at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday and was immediately turned over to his family.

Targa said the rescue team had withdrawn from the oil depot after recovering Cuenco's body.

Cuenco and his companions, Renato Medina, 38, and Renato Genese, 27, whose bodies were earlier recovered, were buried alive after trying to strip off the steel cover of the oil depot.

Five other individuals escaped unhurt in the tragedy, according to Targa. Two of those who survived were identified as Renato Pring and Reynaldo Quilala, both of Sapang Bato.

Targa said the oil depot was about 32 feet deep and 134 feet wide.

The eight individuals from Sapang Bato, who are believed to be scavengers, went inside the oil depot at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, a day before the incident.

Targa said the oil depot is of the three facilities abandoned by Coastal Petroleum.

Targa commended his men as well as the elements from the Air Force who joined in rescuing the victims' body. (Sun.Star Pampanga)
