No proof yet to show NPA was behind Kalinga attack: cops (8:25 p.m.)

BAGUIO CITY –- The ambush of policemen and soldiers providing security for a local government demolition team in Rizal, Kalinga last Monday is still undergoing a follow-up probe, and investigators still have no concrete evidence to prove that members of the New People's Army (NPA) were behind the attack.

Chief Superintendent Raul Gonzales, director of the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera, said this during the Kapihan sa Baguio media forum.

Gonzales revealed that eight suspects have been arrested and appropriate charges are already being prepared for filing against them.

"We cannot just say that the NPA or any other group is behind this because we are still conducting an investigation into this (case). We need to have solid proof before we can issue out any statements," Gonzales told reporters and other participants at Hotel Tepeyac before noon Wednesday. (Ernie N. Olson Jr. of Sun.Star Baguio)
