AFP, MILF, priests in quandary over Bossi abduction, ransom (10:25 p.m.)

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), a secessionist group talking peace with the government and helping in the rescue efforts to recover abducted Italian priest Giancarlo Bossi, is not in favor of paying ransom for the speedy recovery of the captive.

MILF Secretariat head Mohammad Ameen said acceding to the abductors' demand, especially money, will embolden them to commit "this criminal act even more in the future."

Ameen issued the statement a day after reports disclosed that the abductors are demanding $1 million ransom in exchange for the release of Fr. Bossi.

He emphasized that the MILF's role in the rescue of kidnapped victims, priest or non-priest, does not involve any material consideration. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
