Sumalpong's death a big loss: Tawi-Tawi guv (2:46 p.m.)

ZAMBOANGA CITY - An elected official of Tawi-Tawi has described the recent killing of a state-run radio broadcaster as a big loss for the constituents of province.

Tawi-Tawi Governor Sadikul Sahali said he personally knows the late Vicente Sumalpong as a person who is keen on helping other people especially in expressing their rights as a citizen.

Sumalpong, the production supervisor of Radyo ng Bayan-Tawi-Tawi, died from multiple gunshot wounds when he and two others were ambushed last Monday in Barangay Nalil, Bongao, the province' capital.

Two others, including a co-worker, were wounded during the incident.

Sadikul said Sumalpong's killing also tainted the image of Tawi-Tawi since the province had been known as a one of the peaceful place in
Mindanao.

He said the incident is a setback in their efforts from luring investors to invest in Tawi-Tawi, especially in seaweed production and processing.(Bong Garcia)
