Baguio dad backs call for talks on Irisan land issues (10 p.m.)

BAGUIO CITY -- Believing that the concerns of informal settlers at UP Village, Cypress Point, and San Carlos Heights in Barangay Irisan have to be addressed before Congress approves the bill that revises the city charter, the chairman of the Baguio City Council committee on lands said a consultation with those affected is needed so that points that are unclear could be explained to them.

"It will not hurt if we listen to them," Baguio Councilor Isabelo Cosalan Jr. said, adding that in a consultation process, alternative solutions by the affected parties could likewise be ventilated.

Cosalan said a consultation is an opportune time to review House Bill (HB) 3617, authored by Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan as there might be an overlapping of functions of the City Government and the AO 504 Clearing Committee of the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

New departments at City Hall might even be created if the 14th Congress ratifies HB 3617, Cosalan said. (Rimaliza Opiņa of Sun.Star Baguio)
