CAMP OLIVAS -- Police operatives arrested a Korean national Tuesday for the alleged murder of two men, including a fellow national, four months ago in Barangay Tabun, Angeles City.

In a report to Central Luzon Police Director Ismael Rafanan, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Pampanga Director Edgardo Doromal identified the suspect as Yong Yel Yu, 43, married, presently residing in Tabun and in San Rafael, Bulacan.

Yu was collared at around 8 p.m. Tuesday while on board a rented vehicle along Matalino Street corner Kalayaan Avenue in Quezon City by elements of the CIDG in Pampanga, CIDG anti-transnational crime division, and Angeles City Police Office.

Doromal said Yu's arrest was covered by a warrant issued by Judge Angelica Paras-Quaimbao of the Angeles City Regional Trial Court (RTC). Yu was charged with killing two people and injuring another in an attack in March 5.

Officials said Yu assaulted and killed Korean Yun Cho Sang-lag and his Filipino driver Emerson Castro during the incident that occurred in the village of Tabon in Angeles over money matters. The attack also resulted in the wounding of another Korean national, Kim Seok Hwan.

His co-accused, identified as Bruce Lee and Chang Hwan Lee, are the subjects of a manhunt operation by policemen.

CIDG anti-transnational crime chief Gilbert Sosa said Yu has been in the Philippines for the past 11 years and was previously arrested for estafa charges filed against him by a Korean firm.

Sosa said Yu was also arrested sometime in 1999 or 2000 by virtue of a warrant issued by a Makati City court. He is due to be presented to the Angeles City court. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
