Dagupan council okays use of Internet in governance (9:20 p.m.)

DAGUPAN CITY -- Before the term of the past Dagupan City Council ended last month, councilors passed an ordinance last June 29 allowing the use of Internet in local governance.

Councilor Farah Marie Decano, author of the ordinance entitled "Strengthening the Open System for Local Governance," said it was her gift to Dagupeños who again elected her as number one councilor.

It was also a legacy of then Dagupan vice mayor and City Council presiding officer Alvin Fernandez, who is now the city administrator.

Decano was one of the three local legislators in the country invited to the International Visitor Leadership Program on Transparency and Accountability held in August to September 2006 in Washington D.C. (Sunnex)
