Davao: Police bumbles over slain cop-kidnapper (8:15 p.m.)

DAVAO CITY -- It was one disappointing and embarrassing sight: finding a policeman who was still in active duty among the kidnap suspects killed in a raid by the police and the military during the rescue of a kidnapped gasoline station owner, Tuesday evening.

But it was also a victory of sorts for the police, as Davao City once again proved that it is not a good place for criminals -- policeman or not.

In an interview Wednesday, Chief Inspector Querubin Manalang, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Southern Mindanao, could only express his disappointment upon the report that among the four slain kidnap suspects was PO2 Jaime Telebangco, an active member of the Regional Mobile Group-Southern Mindanao.

Manalang, however, said they are happy that the kidnap group has been neutralized.

"The ranks of PRO 11 do not tolerate the involvement of its personnel in heinous crimes such as kidnapping," Manalang said.

Police regional director Andres Caro said they have already conducted investigation over the apparent involvement of PO2 Telebanco in the kidnapping of businessman Edgar Baroso last July 8. (CPM and BOT of Sun.Star Davao)
