Fire bureau forms special rescue unit in Zambo (9:55 p.m.)
ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has organized a special unit, the first of its kind in Mindanao, to rescue people trapped in high-rise building during fires.
Major Jaime Ramirez, city fire marshal, said 40 personnel from the BFP are undergoing training and they will compose the Special Rescue unit (SRU) of Zamboanga City.
Ramirez said the training, dubbed as Basic Rescue Technique Course, would last for 20 days. It is being conducted at the Philippine Public Safety College in Barangay Pasonanca.
The training started last July 4 and would end on the 24th of this month. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
