Troops deployed to MILF areas (7:04 p.m.)

DAVAO CITY -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines is reportedly deploying troops to other known camps of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Mindanao, in an effort to contain the rebels and prevent them from reinforcing their colleagues in Basilan.

In Davao Region, truckloads of Army soldiers were sent to the province of Davao Oriental particularly in the town of Tarragona last Tuesday to monitor and prevent MILF members there from going out of their camps.

In a telephone interview Wednesday, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman Major Randolph Cabangbang denied they are surrounding MILF camps in the region.

He said the realignment of troops is geared towards securing vital installations that may be targeted by lawless elements out to take advantage of the tense situation in Basilan. (BOT of Sun.Star Davao)
