Oro mayor, fire victims to meet on transfer (9:05 p.m.)
CAGAYAN DE ORO -- Mayor Constantino Jaraula and leaders of a landless association in Barangay 6 are scheduled to meet sometime Tuesday to thresh out with finality the question of whether or not they will transfer to the Calaanan relocation site.
This after a fire, at the back of City Hall grounds, ravaged their houses in a dawn blaze last Thursday, destroying millions of pesos worth of properties and displacing around 85 families and 15 boarders.
Affected residents of Barangay 6 and the city police figured in a tense face-off at the area sometime early Monday morning as the police tried to undertake preparations for their transfer to the Calaanan site.
In a radio interview, several officials of the Barangay 6 Riverside Landless Association said they were uninformed about last Friday's meeting with Mayor Jaraula with some of the settlers affected by the dawn blaze.
They explained that they can ill afford to relocate to the Calaanan site in Barangay Canitoan, this city owing to the transportation costs they would incur as a result of the transfer.
Jaraula, however, said he is agreeable to meeting with the association leaders in order to thresh out any issues with them. (Stephen Capillas of Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro)
