Davao City steps up drive against hog cholera (9:34 p.m.)
DAVAO CITY -- The City Government of Davao has intensified efforts to prevent an outbreak of hog cholera in the city with officials cautioning the public whether the meat they are buying are safe and have been inspected by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).
The Office of the City Economic Enterprises (CEE), which manages the city markets and slaughterhouses, has ordered meat vendors to display the necessary permits and certifications issued by NMIS in their stalls.
These documents, according to CEE chief Francisco Vales Jr., prove that the meat is fit for public consumption.
Vales said they have to implement precautionary measures after hog cholera, a highly contagious viral disease affecting swine, hit backyard farms in Pampanga and Bulacan last week. (Grace L. Plata of Sun.Star Davao) |
