CANDABA, Pampanga -- A tornado struck three barangays here at 4 p.m. Monday, leaving two people, including a child, injured and displacing 12 families, reports said.

The victims were identified only as Erwin, 12, and one Beng Chu, a stay-in worker of a duck farm.

A total of 12 houses located in Barangays Tinejero, Talang and Dalayab were damaged by the tornado while two were destroyed.

Maricris Santos, a resident of Barangay Tinejero, said she and her family were inside their home when the tornado hit their area.

"Nakahiga kami sa aming bahay at nagpapahinga ng biglang dumating ang buhawi. Umihip ang malakas na hangin at tinangay ang aming bubungan. Nagtago kami sa ilalim ng papag," said Santos, a mother of two. (We were in our home resting when the tornado came. The wind blew hard and took out our roof. We hid under the bed.)

Their roof was later found in a nearby rice field, she said.

Tinejero barangay chairman Alfredo Lajong said it was the first time that a tornado hit their area.

Mayor Jerry Pelayo, who inspected the area on Tuesday, promised financial assistance to the affected families so they could rebuild their houses. (Sun.Star Pampanga/Sunnex)
