3 killed, 13 hurt in Parañaque firewall collapse
MANILA -- Three construction workers died while 13 others were injured when a 20-foot firewall of a supply warehouse being constructed in Paranaque City fell on them Thursday.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, rescuers were still searching for others who may still be underneath concrete slabs and debris of the collapsed firewall of Wilcon Builders Supply in Barangay San Dionisio, Sucat, Parañaque City.

Parañaque City Police Director Ronald Estilles identified the fatalities as 32-year-old welder Lazaro Ramos, Balbino Ocampo, and Justino Abesamis.
Those injured were identified as Robert Decena, Marlon de Leon, Pablo dela Cruz, Joel Baluyot, Gil Domingo, Ben Banong, Silverio Quiriaga, Lino Domingo, Ricky Garcia, Sonny Fran, Eliseo Maducduc, Jun Feliciano and Boy Evangelista.
Estilles said the injured laborers were sent to Olivarez Hospital and Parañaque Community Medical Center for treatment.
Witnesses said more than a dozen workers were working beside the wall when it fell on them at around 11:30 a.m. "They were mixing cement when the wall fell on them," said Estilles, who led rescue efforts along with personnel from the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the City Government.
Estilles said the workers were installing a huge steel beam that will serve as the frame for the warehouse's roof when the wall crumbled. He also said the wall failed to support the weight of the steel truss.
He said they would continue the rescue operations until the debris has been cleared and they could account for all the workers.
Distraught relatives of the victims rushed to the construction site upon hearing about the incident in the news.
Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe has ordered an investigation into the accident, particularly the liability of city building official Noel Cerpina, who signed the building permit for Wilson Builders Supply. (AH/Sunnex)
