Marcos children claim possession of ownership papers on magnate’s businesses (4:30 p.m.)
THE legal heirs of the late President Ferdinand Marcos openly claim ownership of the businesses of tycoon Lucio Tan and other big companies after original documents supporting their assertion were recently turned over to them by US authorities.
Ilocos Norte Representative Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. explained that it is only now that they received from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) the documents used in the New York trial of former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
Among the documents in Rep. Marcos’ possession are blank Deeds of Assignment issued by the shareholders of Supreme Holdings Inc. and Falcon Holdings Inc., which handled the assets of the late president in Shareholdings Inc.
The Marcoses are claiming 60 percent of Shareholdings, Inc., which beneficially held and controlled substantial shares in corporations owned by Tan such as Fortune Tobacco, Asia Brewery, Allied Banking Corporation and Foremost Farms.
According to lawyer Catalino Generillo Jr. of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), “the government has the reason to believe that the Marcoses own the two underlying holding companies because they are in possession of the Deeds of Assignment."
Aside from their claim over Tan’s companies, the Marcoses are also claiming ownership of 28.35 percent in GMA Network Inc. which according to Congresswoman Ma. Imelda “Imee” Marcos, would have been acquired by his father but entrusted to the Duavits in 1983. (Sunnex) |
