ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Government troops have seized some P3.5 million worth of bomb materials at the local port, a military official reported.

Task Force Zamboanga (TFZ) chief Col. Alfredo Nonato Peralta said seized were 23,000 blasting caps, five kilos of pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), and 6,000 meters detonating cord.

Peralta said the materials were discovered in a container van together with medicines and alcohol in a container yard of the Zamboanga port.

The TFZ, local police, Philippine Coastguard (PCG), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) have conducted an investigation to determine the point of origin and destination of the shipment.

Initially, the military learned that the shipment originated from Manila and is consigned to two persons in this city that are now the object of a manhunt.

The discovery of the explosives' shipment has prompted police and military officials to further strengthened the security measures in this city and in the region.

Closely watched at shopping malls and religious places, which are considered as soft targets but of high impact once bombing attacks happen.

Vital installations are closely watched as well to avert sabotage from taking place.

Military and police forces, in coordination with concerned government agencies, are monitoring the shipment of cargoes at the local port to avert similar shipment of contrabands. (Sunnex)
