Three missing bodies in Maco landslide recovered (3:40 p.m.)

Three bodies of missing residents of Barangay Masara, Maco Compostela Valley were recovered several hours after a landslide around 12 noon Monday.

Recovered Monday evening was the body of 44-year old Avelino Cayentano. Later Tuesday morning, the bodies of Julmer Carriaga, 11 years old and Marissa Par, 32, were also recovered by the rescuers.

A total of ten persons were killed when tons of mud and water destroyed about six houses located near a creek in the said barangay.

The seven other fatalities whose bodies were recovered earlier were identified as Geraldine Cayetano, 16; Romavie Cayetano, 3; Annie Carreon, 31; Aiza Carreon, 7; Angelito Carreon, 4; Loie Carreon, 1; and JR Patria, 16.

The said landslide was blamed on the collapse of a natural dam located above the mountain after the area experienced heavy rains, days ago.

Only about five families were said to be affected by the landslide, nevertheless, authorities ordered for the evacuation of all other residents living near creeks and rivers that are considered high risk areas.(BOT of Sunstar Davao)
